more than a conqueror

In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39

My very present help.

You are my SHIELD,

I've learned recently that as much as I want to be able to lean on the people around me for support, as much as I want to trust that they'll be there for me when they say they will, as much as I believe that they have all the answers... I'm wrong in doing so. When I say recently, I mean last night, during worship, during this song in fact, it was then that I realized this -- The Lord is the only One I can rely on to be by my side. He is the only One who sees my heart at all times. He is the only One who knows my struggles inside-out. He's the only One who knows me inside-out. How wonderful is it that we have a God who answers prayers! He called across the mountains and the seas last night to fill my spirit with peace.

I'm done trying to impress people by becoming someone I'm not.
I'm done trying to justify myself by acting okay when I'm not.
I'm done settling for something less when I know that I deserve the best.

It's when I realize these things, that I know for a period of time my heart has not been focused one hundred percent on the Lord's will for my life. And He knows that all it takes is a little nudge in the right direction.

SOAK IT UP! This message is amazing!

"Grace strikes us when we are in great pain and restlessess. It strikes us when we walk through the dark valley of a meaningless and empty life... It strikes us when, year after year, the longed-for perfection does not appear, when the old compulsions reign within us as they have for decades, when despair destroys all joy and courage. Sometimes at that moment a wave of light breaks into our darkness, and it is as though a voice were saying: 'You are accepted. You are accepted, accepted by that which is greater than you, and the name of which you do not know. Do not ask for the name now; perhaps you will find it later. Do not try to do anything now; perhaps later you will do much. Do not seek for anything, do not perform anything, do not intend anything. Simply accept the fact that you are accepted.' If that happens to us, we experience grace."

And grace calls out: you are not just a disillusioned old man who may die soon, a middle-aged woman stuck in a job and desparately wanting to get out, a young person feeling the fire in the belly begin to grow cold. You may be insecure, inadequate, mistaken, or potbellied. Death, panic, depression, and disillusionment may be near you. But you are not just that. You are accepted. Never confuse your perception of yourself with the mystery that you really are accepted. - From the book the Ragamuffin Gospel.

This passage literally shook me to my core and it's only 30 pages into the book. I'm so excited to see what else these pages have in store for me. This message is so powerful! The gift of grace is so shrouded by the world sometimes. Either we don't think we deserve it, or we think we already own it. Neither of which are true. God so willingly bestows this gift upon us in our most desparate times, those times of self-realization, when we neither desire or expect it.

Fortune Cookie

So, this is pretty much the silliest thing. I always laugh when I talk about myspace, because even though I'm a devout user, the concept of people not being able to pick up the phone and call someone when they want to talk to them is hilarious. Okay, so, not my point. I was on my friend's myspace page and she had a little fortune cookie deal. This is funny, and I know it's not real, but the fortune said "people are watching you." Which can be taken either:

a) creepy. i don't want people watching me.

b) actions speak louder than words. the things that I do affect the way people think about the fact that I'm a Christian, the fact that I do have morals, and the fact that I want to set a standard for myself that's higher than what I may be portraying.

I'm going for the following here. Silly little myspace toy --> convicting statement. funny how that works huh?

I'm afraid to make promises to anyone else or myself that I can change my actions right now, right this second. Because as of late, I've been really good at letting people down.

I really just want to be worldly and say "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission." But that's just irresponsible.

God help me.

"And so dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice-the kind he will accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is. As God's messenger, I give each of you this warning: Be honest in your estimate of yourselves, measuring your value by how mych faith God has given you. Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ's body. We are all parts of his one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others. God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out when you have faith that God is speaking through you. If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. If your gift is to encourage others, do it! If you have money, share it generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Don't just pretend that you love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically. Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble, and always be prayerful." Romans 12:1-12

This scripture has meant so much to me these past few weeks. Through reading these words, I've been pushing myself to become this living sacrifice to God. In fact, I've pushed myself so hard that I've completely missed the mark. Because of mistakes I've made in my life, this year, even this week, the enemy is coercing me into believing that I am worthless. But every time I read this scripture, I can't help but see the good things that God has done, I can't help but see that I am a vital part in a bigger picture. I want to serve him with my mind, with my heart, my emotions. I want to serve him with my fears, and my joy. I want to serve him with my physical body, and with my praise. Wherever it is that God takes me, I am always doing his will, I am always loving his people.
